Sunny Americana: Part 1- Overview

        

 
Summer. Oh, the lovely, bittersweet, sunny, memento mori thought provoking areas of the grand consumerist United States of America. Perhaps the years of watching TV combined with Mac&Cheese affected me far too much. Maybe those were the old, yellow tinted, decaying photographs of California with its' sunny roads, a cool breeze in the shade. “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”, was it you that brought a fake familiar sense of dusty, yellow roads straight to the middle of nowhere of Nevada? Was it “Ghost Town” that created in my head the thought of bored teenagers in sleepy suburbia sitting together on old oil stained diner chairs? Parking lots and TV Dinner, sweaty palms and bubblegum, daisy dukes and ice cream trucks and broken hearts. So give me the whole tray of pizza, and wash it down with Doctor Pepper, it is, after all, the tragic teenage American dream. 

קיץ. מחשבות בניחוח ממנטו מורי, שמש קיצית וטעם מר-מתוק בפה מתעוררים למשמע שמות האיזורים בגברת ארצות הברית הרוויים בצרכנות ובה בעת בחמימות בלתי ניתנת להסבר. אולי אלו הן השנים בהן ישבתי מול הטלויזיה בעודי אוכלת מקרוני וגבינה, או אולי אלו היו התמונות המצהיבות של קליפורניה, עם דרכיה שטופות השמש המוכתמות בצל. אולי "פחד ותיעוב בלאס וגאס" גרם לי לתחושה של היכרות עם הדרכים המאובקות לנבאדה המובילות לשומקום. או אולי "עיר הרפאים" היה זה שגרם לי לחשוב על בני נוער משועממים בדינרים על כיסאות מרופטים, מלאים בכתמי שמן? חניונים גדולים וטי-ווי-דינר, כפות ידיים מזיעות ומסטיק, מכנסיים קצרים ומשאיות גלידה ולבבות שבורים. אז תנו לי את מגש הפיצה, ואקנח בדר. פפר, כי אחרי הכל, זהו ההיבט הטראגי שבדבר, חלום הנעורים האמריקאי
